Election fever heats up parties in Banke



Nepalgunj, March 7: The political parties in Banke district are getting heated up with the prospect of local level elections the government recently announced it will hold on May 4.

The district leaders and party cadres have started fanning out into the villages and towns armed with the slogans and agendas of their respective parties to woo the potential voters.

The local level elections have become the talk of the town with the subject being discussed passionately at the teashops, intersections, villagers' hangouts and in the urban sectors. Although the public is yet to be fully convinced of the elections taking place more than two decades after, there has not been any opposition directed against the elections.

Regional Election Office, Banke's Information Official, Kashilal Adhikari said there are a total of 240,987 voters in the district as per the data collected five months ago. Of the total voters, 117,803 are women and 123,183 are men.

All the 27 parties in the district have completed the necessary legal process for the election and have registered their names, according to the Election Office.

The final update on the voters' list is yet to take place, so there may be some changes in the list, according to Information Official Adhikari. RSS
