Burning urination or painful urination is also referred to as dysuria. A burning sensation with urination can be caused by infectious (including sexually transmitted infections, or STDs such as chlamydia and gonorrhea) and noninfectious conditions, but it is most commonly due to bacterial infection of the urinary tract affecting the bladder. It is often accompanied by other symptoms of urinary tract infections, such as dysuria (painful urination) or blood in the urine, and it can occur after intercourse in women when infection is present.
