Nepal’s delivery of prosperity is exceptional considering that its recent history has been marred by a ten-year civil war and severe earthquakes, claiming the lives of thousands and leaving thousands more displaced. Since the establishment of democracy, and a new constitution in 2015, Nepal is moving forwards. The country has made progress in reducing poverty and is steadily improving the social elements of its prosperity and its economic potential. Nepal boasts the highest level of personal freedom in South Asia by a considerable amount and has made tremendous progress in the Social Capital sub-index, rising 76 ranks in the last five years. Factors holding back Nepal’s prosperity are its difficult business environment and its vulnerability to environmental challenges.
