Australia Awards Regional Alumni Workshop inaugurated

The Australian Ambassador to Nepal, HE Glenn White, inaugurated the Australia Awards South and West Asia Regional Alumni Workshop in Kathmandu, titled ‘Education for All’.

Altogether 42 alumni from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka working in inclusive education are representing their countries and participating in the workshop. The workshop provides alumni with an opportunity to broaden their knowledge and understanding of inclusive education policies and practices in the region, and expand their professional networks.

Investment in human capacity development through the Australia Awards program is an important complementary modality to Australia’s other education investments in Nepal and the region. In the last five years alone, nearly 100 Australia Awards Scholarships have been awarded to individuals in South and West Asia to study in the field of education.

Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador White said, “The Australian Government considers education a critical sector for investment in all countries in South and West Asia. Throughout the region, Australia is partnering with governments to improve access to quality education.” Ambassador White added, “Workshop opportunities such as this provide excellent platforms to network and share experiences aimed at meeting these overall objectives.” Australia Awards are prestigious international scholarships and fellowships funded by the Australian Government. They offer the next generation of global leaders an opportunity to undertake study, research and professional development in Australia. The next intake of Australia Awards Scholarships in Nepal will be announced in January 2017.
