Tukucha (The Lost River)

For many years now, one river seems to have lost its existence. Once upon a time there used to be a big river named Icchumati but it almost has been turned into mere history. Today we find Tukucha river instead of that Icchumati. Not only that, in some of the places it has been lost. A river being lost in this manner is not common. It has lost its identity. That’s not something to be easily ignored. So, where has it gone and who is responsible for its disappearance? Nepal, the second largest country in water resources is on the verge of losing a river of historical value. This sounds impossible but it has happened. Tukucha, which starts from Budanilkantha and ends in Thapathali, mixes with Bagmati. This is its regular route but in middle nobody can see this river. We can see its head and tail but the exact path it follows has not been noticed for quite some years now. Huge buildings have been made above Tukucha. Through Lazimpat, Narayanhiti premises and Kamaladi, most of it runs underground before joining the Bagmati at Thapathali. What may be its consequences?
